Martini Mondays

The first day back to the office from a weekend or holiday can be a rude awakening. Martini Mondays buffer the shock to the system of a first day back. Also, jazz quizzo night, name the most artists correct and you get all your martinis free. Nachos and Guiness

I love nachos and Guiness. Most people do, at least among my compadres. Imagine sitting at bar on a late October Saturday afternoon with a mountain of nachos in front of you and several pints of Guiness already down the hatch and another at the ready, maybe some football on, or perhaps some good music while you're finishing a crossword puzzle. Nachos and Guiness a staple of any good bar. The nachos photo is from ZZ Top's album Tres Hombres. Guiness image is from www.gifttrap.com.

A Dark Bar

There's something to be said for afternoon drinking in a dank bar when it's sunny outside. Fergie's pub is lovely place for this.

A Good Bloody Mary

When you're waking up from a night of moderate to excessive boozing there's no better panacea than a good bloody mary. There are many variations on the traditional bloody mary and most of them are abominable (i.e., the wasabi mary at nodding head). I've found the straight forward approach best, lemon and lime, horseradish, etc. . . . old bay if you want to get fancy. I've also found that cheap, canned tomato juice works best as a base. If my bar ever comes to fruition, I will need to perfect the bloody mary. Bloody mary jpeg from www.mtolivepickles.com

burger time

My friend from work recently let me in on his secret burger recipe. It's pretty busy: cumin, mustard seed, peaches, etc.--there's alot going on. I avoid the trappings of exotic ingredients on burgers and bar food, in general. I tend to eat a more traditional burg with normal accoutrements (tomato, onion, lettuce), however, this burger worked for me. Although, I think it would work best as appetizer. Black Cat

For any of you who have never heard of or been to the Black Cat, it is a great venue in D.C. for music, food, people, etc. If I ever fulfill my dream of owning my own bar/gastropub/music venue, I would hope to approximate something in the image of the Black Cat. A good jukebox is essential to any good pub. Here's a photo of Joe Strummer of the Clash. Picture of Joe Strummer found on www.natfilm.dk.

Opening my Bar (that serves food)

I've tossed around the idea of opening my own bar/gastropub, whatever label you want to ascribe. I'm not sure of a name yet, however, I do know it will be along the lines of a Standard Tap or Royal Tavern, in terms of food and affordability. Ideally, I'd like to open somewhere other than Philly, Asheville, NC maybe or perhaps Portland, ME.
